The Big Day!
Well, not MY big day, but my brother’s big day. After a month and a half in Marblehead, MA I flew home for the weekend. The reason being- my brother was getting married! For those of you who don’t know my family, I have an older brother (32 yo) and an older sister (28 yo). My brother moved to West Virgina to teach Computer Science after finishing his Ph.D at the University of Wisconsin, Madison. He moved with his then fiance, Heather. But since they both are basically from the Midwest they decided to get hitched here with family and friends.

The wedding was an outdoor wedding under a white tent. With a theme of white orchids and bamboo. It was held at Warner Park, on the East side of town. The reception was in a lovely room in the community center, with lots of windows overlooking the pond. After two days of gloom and rain, Saturday turned out to be just beautiful. The only bad aspect to the weather was some frisky wind that tried to ruffle some dresses. The ceremony was performed by my brothers friend Julie, who actually used to live with my family while she was in college at the UW, and later became ordained UCC. It was a small wedding of about 115 people. Non traditional in the sense that the bride did not wear white, the groom did not wear a tux, and the “best man” was actually a lady. Nothing normal for our family!

A good number of family members were able to fly in and we had lots of time to visit which was really nice. The whole weekend went without any real problems or too much stress. We actually went shopping for running shoes the morning of the wedding. We also enjoyed a lunch of Mac and Cheese pizza with the extended family at the house. Sunday morning we had a nice brunch for most of the family and friends. There were around 40 people who show up at various intervals. The puppies were kept in the backyard, but behaved incredibly well. This was the first time I meet any of Heather’s family, and they were all great.
Everyone commented on our wonderful hospitality, which really feels nice. I also was asked to do a reading during the wedding, which went marvelously considering I had to hold my dress down with one hand, hold the reading with the other, and project loud enough for everyone to hear. I actually received numerous complements on the Cento I put together, but even better Nick and Heather loved it. Which is all that really matters. So thanks to Koop for helping me practice, it really paid off.

Although I posted a few photos here, I put the rest up on a new flickr account I started. These are simply a few pics from the wedding, the real wedding pictures will hopefully be available soon. Enjoy. And congratulations Nick and Heather!! Have a fantastic honeymoon.
